The Rocky Horror Picture Show was filmed on a shoestring budget of around $1.25 million, which was relatively small for a movie made by 20th Century Fox. Sue Blane, the costume designer for the stage play, only had a $400 budget for costumes, but was able to use the same costumes for the movie with a slightly larger budget of $1,500-$1,600.
