Then, they flew to Libya, where things got complicated due to the dictator Gaddafi's reservations about their presence and the Libyan killed during the operation. After releasing all hostages and five delegates in exchange for refueling, the plane returned to Algeria with the remaining hostages and the terrorist group leader, Carlos, who received political asylum and cash from Saudi Arabia or Iran.
