The CIA did not want to help people remember the history of the Congo as it would expose their role in the assassination of its first democratically-elected leader, Patrice Lumumba. Additionally, President JFK inaugurated Dulles airport, named after the man responsible for much of the CIA's clandestine activities, which highlights how little shame the US has over their past actions.
