In 1987, a jury awarded Bula McDonald and other plaintiffs a seven-million-dollar compensation, equivalent to $15-$17 million today. The plaintiffs had alleged that the Klan was deliberately trying to intimidate and harass black citizens and depriving them of their constitutional rights in Alabama by killing and harming them.
