The early Border Patrol officers were mostly Mexican-American, who saw their career in law enforcement as a way of separating themselves from non-white people. However, as a rule, a growing Mexican-American community started to emerge around the 1940s who were very pro immigration enforcement and harsher laws against illegal immigration.
