The filter bubble phenomenon in social media can be highly destructive as algorithms are optimizing time on site by showing users only what they want to see. The solution is to intentionally curate a balanced distribution of likes and follows and intentionally follow groups and public intellectuals that represent opposite sides of every topic to confuse the algorithm.
