The first Tumblr fan convention, DashCon, in 2014 became infamous for allegations of corruption and mismanagement by organizers, including a demand for upfront payment of cash from the hotel and running around with a plastic bag asking people for money. Celebrity guests were also forced to drop out after they were told they would be responsible for paying their own hotel rooms.
