A group of explorers discovered the bacteria Aestructomyces hydroscopicus in Rapa Nui (Easter Island) and brought it to Montreal where it was eventually isolated and found to be a potent anti-fungal agent, however, the discovery was almost lost due to the closure of the company where the researcher worked.
