The smaller eruption that took place on March 27th was a precursor to the larger eruption in May which devastated the surrounding area. The ash column from the mini eruption went up 6,500 feet into the air and coincidentally occurred on the same day as a mineral and gem show in Yakima, less than a hundred miles away.
