The history of The Stanley Hotel starts with the Estes Park Hotel, built by Irishman Lord Dunraven in 1877. The hotel was a success, but Dunraven eventually lost interest and sold the property to F. O. Stanley in 1907, who later built the iconic Stanley Hotel on the land after the original hotel burned down in 1911.
