Animals have evolved mortality as a compromise to put energy into other evolutionarily important traits, like being adapted to a specific environment, rather than putting all their energy into being immortal or constantly maintaining their body. Climate change, however, can push certain animals, like sharks, to extinction despite millions of years of adaptation to their environment.
