After the Los Angeles Times published its exposé on Dr. Puggliafico, the DA's office declined to investigate and the top two editors of the newspaper were removed, along with the assistant managing editor of investigations. Pugliafico was able to testify that his actions were due to undiagnosed bipolar disorder and was not prosecuted.
