The genus Psilocybe precedes humanity, originated in Africa over 25 million years ago, and has radiated across the world due to plant and animal vectors. While not looking at the hallucinogenic compounds and chemistry of the fungi in detail, researcher Andrew Weil discusses the possibility that many animals, if not all, can experience the effects of these mushrooms like the reindeer in Lapland who eat Amanita.
