In the 1920s and 1930s, Nashville had a wealthy class of politicians and businesspeople trying to move the city's image in the opposite direction of the Saturday night hoedowns happening in an insurance company's headquarters. But the Grand Ole Opry helped establish Nashville as the headquarters of country and western music.
