The Great Leap Backward
This episode talks about the Great Chinese Famine during 1958 to 1962, which is estimated to have taken 25 to 30 million lives due to bad agricultural policies and unrealistic goals of Communist leader Mao Zedong. Many peasants were tortured and beaten to death during the brutal campaign to seize all the harvest and grain quotas, leaving people to subsist on gruel made of grass and inedible plants.
