The Allies' love and sense of justice may have prevented much worse things from happening during World War II, and Hitler is a prime example of the debate between the great man theory and trends and forces theories of history. It's hard to imagine anything worse than what happened, but there were potential candidates in the Weimar Republic who could have made a difference.
