Jell-O started out with only four flavors but later expanded with the help of advertising, including a famous radio ad from Jack Benny. Initially, chocolate flavoring did not go over well, but after reformulating into pudding and adding milk, Jell-O was able to create a successful line of puddings, including fan-favorite butterscotch.
