The practice of sterilization in the United States dates back to the early 1900s, with doctors at asylums and prisons given the authority to sterilize individuals with drug and alcohol abuse problems. Post World War Two, Nazi doctors were not punished for their similar practices as it was being carried out in the U.S. as well.
