The Texas Rangers were initially formed with the purpose of protecting white settlers from indigenous peoples in the region, and would go on to become a police force focused mainly on Mexicano communities on the border. However, their actions were often violent and involved forcing indigenous people out of their homes and onto reservations, burning their villages, and murdering women and children.
