The counterculture movement in the United States in the 1960s was already open to the idea of expanding their minds with acid and meditation, and unknowingly, the ideas of Buddhism had already been pre-influenced by predecessors such as the Transcendentalists. These were Buddhist thoughts but influenced by modernism and other groups, resulting in a perfect timing for the counterculture to receive it.
