Ethelred's ascension to power in West Saxon was soon followed by the arrival and settlement of the Danish "Great Heathen Army" in East Anglia. The army was led by Ivar, Abba and Half-Dan, who came to avenge the death of their father, Ragnar, and soon established themselves in territories across England.
