Despite law enforcement trailing him for a period, Scott Allen Carpenter was arrested in relation to the murders of Ellen Hansen and Heather Scaggs after evidence was found against him. Carpenter did not resist arrest and, 10 days later, the body of Heather Scaggs was discovered by a pair of hikers.
