The narrow focus on pleasures and pains in the economist's toolkit can lead to missing out on bigger issues such as dignity, self-respect and becoming the person one aspires to be. These wild problems, despite having bigger externalities, run along similar lines and therefore, an economic approach to resolving them may be challenging.
