The Mason-Dixon Line was a disputed partition between the British colonies of Pennsylvania and Maryland for decades until the King of England commissioned two surveyors, Charles Mason and Jeremiah Dixon, to determine the boundary in 1763. The surveyors spent 58 months living in tents and using modern equipment to identify a 233-mile stretch, which is still considered remarkably accurate to this day.
