Bruno Manser's journey to Borneo began when he stumbled upon scarce information about the Pannon community, a nomadic group living in Sarawak’s rainforest, in a library in Switzerland. He eventually traveled to Sarawak to study the community and later became an advocate for the preservation of the rainforest and the Penan's way of life.
