There is a possibility that the United States may lose to the ethno-nationals abroad, i.e. China's Communist Party (CCP), and they may also lose to the maximalists at home, and secession might happen because the regime may not to be able to hold back these groups. The CCP and secessionists are different from Nazis and Confederates, respectively, and civilization would need to be rebuilt if the US were to break up.
