Though Kevin McCarthy hasn't secured the votes necessary to become speaker of the house, the hard right flank of lawmakers believes it is going to take multiple voting ballots before someone feels comfortable enough to put their name on the ballot. McCarthy will need to contort himself into the kind of leader that these hard right house Republicans require, despite the fact that there are only a small group of them demanding he be this way.
