The Rise and Fall of Crop Fortunes
The crop fortunes in the 1700s were affected by family matters and bad luck, bringing them down from being the richest family in town to just another wealthy family. The original owner of the crop, Matthias, was a successful businessman who sold around a thousand barrels per year and was recognized as a highly honored patriot lord by the town council. The crop later became the site of a gun works that supplied arms to Germany during two world wars.
