In a study about the phenomenon of disgust, researchers showed one group of participants images of car crashes while the other group was shown images of rotting objects in order to explore the emotion's role in dehumanization. Disgust has historically been used as a tool for dehumanizing individuals, such as in Nazi propaganda.
