The Nobel Prize and science have become a substitute for religion in the fear of death and the desire for a legacy that outlives an individual; however, this substitution does not ultimately fulfill a person in the same way as a practicing religious belief does. This theme of death and outlasting an individual is prevalent in the Nobel Prize as it is awarded on the day of Alfred Nobel's death.
