Punk music was a reaction to the overindulgent and bloated arena rock of the time, with bands like the Ramones purposefully making songs that were less than a minute long to get their message across. Punk was born from a place of the outsider looking in and finding solace in each other, as Johnny Ramone noted in a 1976 Rolling Stone interview.
