Arthur Jones, the creator of Nautilus machines, was the first person to introduce the science behind muscle growth and has been attributed as the origin of high-intensity weight training. Mike Mentzer was a heavy advocate and follower of Jones's training methods, refining and adapting them for his own use as a bodybuilder and coach.
