The state of the art of physics in the 40s and 50s was so bad that the ideas being thrown around did not sound like physical theories, but rather like literary interpretations. Einstein's side did not win because he was a bit of a loner and did not collaborate or have many students, unlike Niels Bohr who was constantly gregarious and working with everyone.
