Despite the fact that serotonin has not been directly connected to OCD, the serotonin systems have a significant role in cognitive flexibility and inflexibility - two key themes of OCD. The selective serotonin reuptake inhibitors can be effective in reducing OCD symptoms, but there is little evidence that serotonin system is disrupted in OCD and it continues to be a mystery to many researchers.
