The Thylacine, a nocturnal carnivorous marsupial with a striped dog-like appearance, was once found on mainland Australia, Tasmania, and Papua New Guinea but became extinct due to excessive hunting, habitat destruction, and introduced disease. As of today, over 28% of all assessed species on Earth are threatened with extinction.
