The development of AGI has become somewhat of a taboo topic in the AI community as advancements have not been able to deliver the level of automation and human-like intellect that people have hoped for in the past 60-70 years, although Open AI is looking to change that with its mission statement of creating collaborative and safe General Intelligence.
