Throughout the early morning of June 1st, 1921, white groups entered Greenwood, Tulsa and began shooting into businesses and residents, looting and burning buildings, including black-owned businesses, residences, schools and churches. Eyewitness accounts estimate at least a dozen planes circled the neighborhood, dropping burning turpentine balls on buildings.
