The Einsatzgruppen, which were primarily composed of SS officers who had previously been police officers, were responsible for compiling the first comprehensive list of Holocaust perpetrators including everyone from those who carried out killings to those who manned gas chambers. Despite this, many within the SS denied any wrongdoing.
