The basic principles of how different layers in the neocortex are responsible for intelligence are now more understood, but there are still some mysteries especially with grid cells and place cells in the old parts of the brain, which could be key pieces to intelligence. Using the 1000 brain theory of intelligence as a framework for predicting and solving problems can still be helpful.
