The police's internal planning documents revealed that they viewed fascist activists as more mainstream than anti-fascists following the dueling protests between left and right-wing demonstrators in Portland. The prominent right-wing founder of the Proud Boys, Gavin McInnes, promoted violence among his street fighters against journalists, newspaper offices, political propaganda, and left-wing canvassers which eventually led to them shedding blood to stop it.
