The biggest fault is looking for confirmations of things we already know to maintain our pride that we already knew it. We should keep our eyes on the ball and acknowledge that sometimes nature can give us clues about things we haven't expected, especially when it comes to worrying about the great filters that destroy intelligent civilizations.
