Zero-knowledge rollups, such as the ones pioneered by Starkware, allow for shorter proofs that computation was done properly, significantly increasing the speed of the Ethereum blockchain to support not only payments but a broad array of applications. By combining zero-knowledge rollups with the ETH2 layer one speed up, a 10,000 times speed up in transactions can be achieved.
