The academic demands on students at Gunn High School in Palo Alto became so severe that it resulted in the highest number of suicides in the nation during the late 90s and 2000s, with students killing themselves on the train tracks between the middle school and the high school. Despite this, many still move to the area specifically for their children to attend the school.
