Researchers in Toronto have developed a drug designed to mimic a genetic mutation that reduces the risk of conditions like cardiovascular disease in people with familial hypercholesterolemia. The mutation affects PCSK9, and leads to a hyper-functioning protein which constantly degrades LDL receptors.
