The role of amyloid in Alzheimer's disease is not crystal clear since there are healthy people with lots of amyloid plaques in their brains. Some individuals with deterministic genes may get early onset of disease, making the diagnosis more apparent, but it is still uncertain how important amyloid is for the disease.
