Ansel Keyes conducted a study called the Seven Countries Study, funded with $200,000 in 1956, to analyze heart attack mortality rates and diets in Italy, Greece, the former Yugoslavia, Netherlands, Finland, America, and Japan. Despite the study's fame and having been cited one million times, its selection of countries has been criticized for being very selective, with predominantly white countries and Japan.
