The discovery of four transcription factors that can activate a variety of genes in stem cells, allowing them to be multipotent, has the potential to reverse cell differentiation. The study was conducted on mice where fibroblast cells were taken and by using the discovered transcription factors, were transformed into embryonic stem cells.
