During exercise, energy is first produced locally by muscle through phosphocreatine and carbohydrate stores. Your body prioritizes regulating blood glucose levels because glucose is a primary fuel source for the brain and will break down liver glycogen to maintain glucose concentrations in the blood if necessary, resulting in an increase in blood glucose concentrations during exercise instead of a decrease.
