The effects of neurotrophic factors like BDNF have been studied in relation to the antidepressant effects of ketamine and psychedelics, as well as SSRIs and other antidepressants. While raising BDNF levels can improve both synaptic efficacy and density, the exact role it plays in the increase of dendritic growth and synaptic density is still being researched.
