A Syrian refugee has implemented mushroom cultivation in refugee camps using recycled materials such as cardboard and paper, which has resulted in over a thousand people being able to grow oyster mushrooms and produce their own food. This highlights the importance of mycelium in food biosecurity, with fungi being the foundation of the food web.
